The Apology Paul Ryan Knows He Owes America

Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan recently claimed he “sobbed” while watching the January 6th insurrection.

What courage to admit that.

Just kidding. Paul Ryan, of course, remains the textbook example of spinelessness, so I’ve done him a favor in writing the apology he owes us for spending his time as Speaker refusing to offer any personal opinions on Donald Trump’s weekly plethora of controversies, pretending he never read Trump’s absurdly belligerent tweets, gaslighting the media when they’d ask about Trump’s preposterously immoral personal character, and abandoning the idealistic notion that our elected officials should stand up to the xenophobic and fascist conspiracists who detest our democracy and the liberal values upon which our country is founded:

“Hey, everyone, Paul here, it has been a long time since I’ve said anything publicly, but I have to clear my conscience for myself, my family, and my beloved nation. Donald Trump must be held accountable for his crimes against our government and society. He must be indicted, prosecuted, and imprisoned.

Trump has been historically wicked in a hundred ways, and the Republican Party that has given him political cover by refusing to impeach him twice and continuing to this day to pretend he didn’t try to launch a violent dictatorship must…
